Nipper 1.2 is now available. This release includes a number of feature enhancements over Nipper 1.1 and represents a milestone in the Nipper 1.x series. Nipper 2, which will be released latter this year, will be a very significant release for Nipper and includes some big changes, many of which have been suggested by the community.

Nipper 1.2 includes the following new features and enhancements:

• Security audit summary - A brief summary of the security issues identified together with a graph outlining the severity of the issues identified. The summary section also includes some statistics drawn from the result of the audit.



• Support for more devices - Nipper 1.2 adds support for 3COM 4200 series switches, 3COM 4500 series switches, Juniper ISG firewalls, Juniper SSG firewalls. This takes the total number of devices supported by Nipper to 50.



• Impoved support for Juniper NetScreen - A number of improvements have been made to the support for NetScreen devices, plus enhancements to the report text for those devices.
• Improved support for Cisco IOS-based Catalysts - A number of improvements have been made to the support for Cisco IOS-based Catalyst devices, plus enhancements to the report text for those devices.
• Improved support for Cisco Firewalls - A number of improvements have been made to the support for Cisco ASA, FWSM and PIX devices, plus enhancements to the report text for those devices.
• Improved support for HP JetDirect Print Servers
• Improved vulnerability detection
• Add license wizard - We back-ported the add license wizard from Nipper 2 to make it easier to add a license to the Nipper software. Enabling you to get up and running with Nipper even quicker.



• Home license issue - The home licensed Nipper will now include a security issue which details the number and severity of the issues that would be shown if the product was commercially licensed. This should provide home users with an indication of the issues that are not included in their report. The ratings of this issue is calculated from the most significant rating that would of been reported.



• Other Updates - Plus there is a huge number of other minor updates, improvements and fixes have been made. Most of these were suggested by the Nipper community.

Nipper 1.2 is available for download now for the following platforms:
