Nipper 1.1 Released

Titania is proud to announce the release of Nipper 1.1 which extends and adds to the already extensive list of Nipper features and supported devices. Just like with the previous releases too many new features have been added to list them all (over 150 new features with this release), so here are a few of our favourites:

Nipper One for WindowsNipper 1.1 now includes support for 46 devices! This version introduces support for the latest generation of XTM-based firewalls from WatchGuard, Fortinet FortiGate firewalls, various SonicWALL SonicOS devices, CheckPoint firewalls and Brocade switches. Support for various slightly older devices has also been added, such as the legacy WatchGuard Firebox Edge devices, CyberGuard SecureOS 6-based devices and Alteon switched firewalls. You can find a list of the current supported devices on the Nipper pages and you can request support for new devices using our issue tracking system.

Nipper 1.1 includes completely new software vulnerability analysis and reporting code which we plan to further extend and enhanced in future Nipper versions. This new functionality can be seen in the enhancements to the report output and with additional configuration settings added to Nipper One. Furthermore, the new on-line update functionality of Nipper means that as new vulnerability database updates become available your local version can be automatically updated.

Nipper security audits were already comprehensive, with checks being performed not only on the firewall rules, but with administrative services, passwords, routing protocols, logging, time synchronisation and much more. Nipper 1.1 extends this audit even further with support for wireless networking and VPN configurations.* This also means that Nipper includes additional report appendix sections related to VPN and wireless settings.

Nipper One was a great success when it was introduced, but we have improved it further with some feature and cosmetic enhancements. Nipper One now enables you to specify information about a device that may not be included within the configuration and which had previous meant that Nipper had to perform some clever guess work. This can be important for the operating system version when used with the vulnerability analysis routines. Nipper One also includes more information about your licence, Nipper and the vulnerability database.

Nipper 1.1 is still as easy to use as previous versions, is cost effective and enables you to quickly perform your own network device security assessments without requiring any specialist security skills. Using Nipper can greatly improve your network security and reduce your Total Cost of Ownership (TCO). To get your copy of Nipper 1.1; register for a Titania web account (if you have not done so already), select a Nipper licence, and then download Nipper.
