Nipper 1.0 Released

Nipper 1.0 is out now and introduces a huge number of new features and improvements over the previous versions. Here are just some of the great new features and improvements:

Nipper One for WindowsThis version introduces a new Nipper tool, Nipper One. This tool has a powerful yet easy to use interface, enabling those users who prefer graphical tools to quickly perform their own security audits. It is as easy as 1-2-3 and Nipper One is available in Windows, Mac OS X, GNU/Linux and platform independent versions. You can find out more on the Nipper pages.

Nipper 1.0 adds support for even more devices, with the total devices supported now standing at 28. Furthermore, support for at least 30 devices are scheduled for inclusion in the Nipper 1.1 release. You can find a list of the current supported devices on the Nipper pages and you can request support for new devices using our issue tracking system.

Nipper 1.0 supports report output in HTML, XML, Latex, Text and CSV formats. Enabling you to choose the format that best suits your business requirements. The new CSV format support enables you to export the recommendations in a format that can be easily managed using a spreadsheet application. CSV reporting also enables you to easily export your firewall rules. You can read more about the reporting on the Nipper information pages.

With Nipper 1.0, support has now been added for a large number of protocols, services and configurations. These include, but are not limited to; RIP, OSPF, BGP, VRRP, HSRP, GLBP, WINS, EIGRP, IPP, JetDirect, Syslog, NTP, SNTP, FTP Printing, Static routing, IDS, IPS, NAT and PAT. These nicely complement the already impressive array of support that the previous versions enjoyed. *

Nipper 1.0 introduces new firewall rule and other audit configuration options to enable you to further fine tune your security audit. There are over 30 settings for the firewall rule auditing alone.

Enhanced support for all the devices that Nipper had supported in previous versions. A few of the new improvements have already been described, but there are many other improvements unique to each device and those that effect all devices. Such as enhancements to Nippers intelligent configuration analysis. This new version boasts almost double the number of lines of code as the previous version and triple that of the version before.

Nipper 1.0 represents a culmination of over 3 years development and many more years of practical network security knowledge. It enables you to quickly perform your own network device security assessments without requiring any specialist security skills. Using Nipper can greatly improve your network security and reduce your Total Cost of Ownership (TCO).
